Club Crosswinds

lake trout fishing

Crosswinds Lake is one of the state's best kept secrets, and produces some of the largest fish caught every year. You will be treated to a hearty breakfast before fishing Lake Trout. You can troll for those enormous trout or wade a small, clear water stream for the feisty arctic grayling. For a change of pace, drop a fly on the lake and match wits with the great fighting whitefish. If you are a fly fisherman, you may want to think about coming in early spring time when the salmon are migrating out of the lake. The monster lake trout will follow the salmon smelt up in the shallows, right in front of the lodge.
Located at the outlet on the north end of Crosswinds Lake, this private lodge will provide you with the ultimate in wilderness accommodations. The scenery on your trip will be dominated by the Wrangell St. Elias National Park. This mountain range hosts the largest concentration of peaks in North America that reach over 10,000 feet.
The only thing more spectacular than the view is the fishing. You will fish for grayling, whitefish and lake trout. Red salmon in the fall. The lake trout fishing is some of the best in Alaska, averaging from 3 to 6 pounds, but it's not uncommon to catch fish over 20 to 30 pounds.

For you fly fishermen, there is a migration of red salmon that attracts the large lake trout into the shallow waters, right in front of the lodge. These fish have to be stalked like bonefish, and this fishing is primarily done at night. These fish are fast and ferocious, and it's suggested to use an 8 wt. 9-10 foot rod. This can be the experience of a lifetime!
